Airport Upgrade
Mfuwe International Airport- Zambia

The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) announced a comprehensive upgrade project for Mfuwe International Airport (MFU) starting June 13th, 2024. This vital gateway to Zambia's South Luangwa National Park will undergo significant improvements while remaining operational throughout the 90-day project.

The project focuses on enhancing safety, efficiency, and capacity for MFU. Crucial runway, taxiway, and apron surfaces will be rehabilitated for smooth and safe aircraft operations. Upgrading the aging airfield ground lighting system will improve nighttime operations, while a reconstructed inner perimeter fence will bolster security. The terminal building will also be extended to accommodate a growing number of passengers, creating a more comfortable and efficient flow.

This project is more than just construction; it is a strategic investment in Zambia's tourism industry. South Luangwa National Park, a major tourist draw with its diverse wildlife, deserves a modern and efficient airport. The improved infrastructure will enhance safety, passenger experience, and project a positive image for Zambia's tourism development. This can attract more travellers, contribute to economic growth, and solidify South Luangwa's position as a premier safari destination.

While MFU remains operational, travellers can expect some adjustments. Checking with airlines for potential schedule changes and being prepared for a slightly altered airport environment is advisable.

The Mfuwe International Airport upgrade marks a significant step forward. By prioritising safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort, MFU is poised to become an even more attractive gateway to South Luangwa National Park. This project reflects Zambia's commitment to a thriving tourism industry and ensures a seamless and positive travel experience for visitors from the moment they land. So, for those planning a safari adventure, rest assured that Mfuwe International Airport is taking flight towards a brighter future, ready to welcome you with a modernised terminal.
